Tub-to-Shower Conversions in Richardson, TX
The garden tub nobody's used since 2015 is the most valuable unused real estate in your bathroom. Converting it to a walk-in shower is our most-requested bathroom project.
Last updated: July 2026
Tub-to-shower conversions in the DFW area run $8,000-$18,000 for a full custom conversion: tub-out, new pan or curbless entry, tiled walls, glass enclosure, and updated plumbing fixtures. It's the single most-requested bathroom project we build, because it converts space you don't use into the shower you use twice a day.
The standard 60-inch tub footprint converts beautifully: a five-foot walk-in shower with a bench is a genuine upgrade over any tub-shower combo. Larger garden-tub footprints — common in Richardson master bathrooms — convert into oversized showers with room for a bench, a niche wall, and double shower heads.
The scope beneath the tile is what separates a conversion from a liner-company overlay: we take the old tub and surround out completely, correct the drain location (tub and shower drains differ), install a properly sloped pan or a curbless entry, waterproof the walls to modern standards, and then tile. The overlay products advertised on TV skip most of those steps — which is why they cost less and why we're often hired to replace them.
Curbless (zero-entry) conversions deserve special mention: removing the step makes the shower accessible for aging in place, visually enlarges the room, and has become the design standard in high-end DFW remodels. It requires recessing the pan into the floor structure — an extra $1,500-$3,000 done during conversion, far more if retrofitted later.
The one-tub rule keeps resale safe: DFW buyers with young children expect at least one tub in the house, so we convert master tubs freely when a secondary bathroom keeps its tub — the configuration buyers actually prefer. Converting the only tub in the house is the one version we'll counsel against.
